with Keith Conforti

Calendar Nov 2, 2020 at 7 pm, runs for 7 weeks

This course is designed to introduce the basic functions of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign in 18 hours, broken into a series of 90-minute remote classes. While each program has a specific creative purpose, there is a significant overlap in each program’s functions meaning it is relatively easy to acquire basic skills in both.

Using Illustrator you will learn to create and edit full-color illustrations exhibiting line and shape, volumetric form, shading, depth and randomness by using a vector illustration software application. Typography features, tools that automate drawing tasks, libraries of brushes, patterns and colors will also be explored. We will cover, in depth, all the basics which will allow you to start making professional looking graphics immediately. The main goal is to give you enough experience in Adobe Illustrator that you will leave this class confident in your ability to create any type of basic art or design you conjure.

Adobe InDesign is the industry standard layout program that takes desktop publishing and design to a high level, combining extraordinary production power and creative freedom integrated with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat software. In this class students will learn the basics to create layout documents and prepare them for print or export as a PDF. They learn the work area, work with typography and graphics, and create simple vector-based graphics, and import images (features that are shared by both programs).

At the conclusion of the course, students will be familiar with Illustrator and InDesign enough to create a variety of basic designs and layouts. Students will also have a basic understanding of both programs, tools, menus and basic functions in layout, typography, image manipulation, and production techniques to create finished projects.
