Learning to effectively and efficiently use formulas to calculate numerical information is critical to becoming a proficient Microsoft Excel user. Formulas are one of the most powerful and versatile features in Microsoft Excel and they can help you work smarter, not harder!

This one hour program will cover the basic formulas in Excel including those that are most used, and help you use them to your advantage in your daily work.

Excel: Pivot Tables, Protected Sheets and Other Tips/Tricks (WIT345-68)

Learn to use pivot tables to sort and organize data and build professional-looking reports containing large amounts of data in Microsoft Excel. This class will also cover the benefits of protected sheets and how to set up and use them properly. Finally, we will cover spreadsheet best practices including tips and tricks to help you stay organized, like format painter, text wrapping, auto filling cells, and more!

In this course students will learn more advanced features of Excel, including charting, and discover how this powerful program can boost their productivity. Students will also learn how to use formulas and functions across multiple workbooks and worksheets, and create outlines and subtotals. This is a practical hands-on course where students will learn to create informative and eye-catching charts, as well as how to harness the power of Excel filtering techniques. 

This course is offered in a remote learning capacity. Zoom guidance and instructions will be provided prior to the start of the course.

Course Description:

Microsoft Excel is one of the most powerful and versatile business tools. This course will help students familiarize themselves with basic functions, formulas, commands and keystrokes. Students will learn the basics of creating and using spreadsheets to increase their workplace productivity.

This course will include an overview of the ribbon bar, commonly used commands, and basic formulas used to automate one's work. Students will also discover professional Excel tips for brilliant, distinctive output every time, on every worksheet. 

Who should attend?

This program is for new and beginner level Microsoft Excel users.

About the instructor:

Elaine Moore has earned three degrees: Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science as well as a Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems. 

She has worked as a Director of Information Technology at the National Graduate School of Quality Systems Management (NGS) in Falmouth, then transitioned to the New England College of Business (NECB) in Boston. While at NECB, she was part of the eLearning Technology department, which created animated and interactive lectures for online classes.

Elaine started classroom teaching for Cape Cod Community College in the Fall semester of 2006 and has been teaching with us ever since! Students enjoy Elaine's friendly and personal demeanor.

Course Description:

This session will explore additional formulas and functions and address absolute vs. relative cell referencing, multiple worksheets and displaying of data using charts. 

Attendees will learn how to expand their knowledge and use of functions and creation of charts.Topics covered include, but are not limited to: functions in Excel, cell referencing, creating and linking multiple sheets in a workbook, and creating charts.

Who Should Attend?

This session is appropriate for users who need to customize their worksheets, present data through charts, and/or develop long-range spreadsheets for data tracking.
