Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) Exam Prep Course

Calendar Oct 5, 2022 at 6 pm, runs for 12 weeks

The SHRM-CP certification is for individuals that perform general HR/HR-related duties; or for those pursuing a career in Human Resource Management.

Candidates for the SHRM-CP certification are not required to hold an HR title and do not need a degree or previous HR experience to apply; however, a basic working knowledge of HR practices and principles is recommended.

The SHRM-CP exam is designed to assess the competency level of those who engage in HR work at the operational level. Work at this level includes duties such as implementing HR policies, supporting day-to-day HR functions, or serving as an HR point of contact for staff and stakeholders.

Refer to the SHRM BASK for detailed information on proficiency standards for this credential (i.e., Proficiency Indicators only For All HR Professionals).

Course Format:
This is offered in an online/remote learning capacity with remote sessions on 10/5, 10/19, 11/2, 11/16, 11/30, and 12/14 from 6-9pm. Zoom guidance and instructions will be provided prior to the start of the course.

Valuing Differences

The Valuing Differences program is designed to provide participants with a practical skill set that will help them lead the way in creating a positive and welcoming culture for all staff/customers and volunteers. This training will introduce participants to cultural norms and communication styles from around the world giving them the ability to manage a diverse workforce and provide stellar customer service in a global industry. This program will also help managers to understand and apply harassment policies, recognize behaviors associated with sexual harassment, discrimination & bullying, as well as understand their role as manager in creating an environment which supports every employee being treated with dignity and respect. Participants will also learn specific actions they can take to help keep themselves and their organization out of court.

Course Format
This course is offered in person. All programs with in-person (on campus) classroom instruction at Cape Cod Community College require students to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to participation. 

Step by Step: Create an Operations Strategy (WPG478-64)

In this session, attendees will create an operations management strategy by using a proven 6 step process to identify current business conditions and company needs, analyze internal and external factors impacting their business, formulate a relevant operations management strategy, and create a process for its implementation.

Cybersecurity Essentials for the Small Business (WIT337-64)

Calendar Oct 28, 2022 at 1 pm, runs for 2 weeks

In the foundation session of this two-part program, participants will be introduced to cybersecurity terminology. Then, building on those items, participants will review the types of cyberattacks businesses face and explore the past and present cyber landscape. From here we will dive into these critical moments in time and discuss essential cybersecurity protocols business owners and executives can put in place to avoid falling victim to similar threats.

In our second session, we will get into more advanced cybersecurity topics, and look towards the future. The group will also discuss the essential aspects of an effective cybersecurity program that participants can implement to better protect their own organizations.

Finally, we will wrap things up with a Q&A session to answer any questions!

This program is for small business owners and others looking to create an effective cybersecurity program to implement and protect their business better.

About the Instructor:
Jake Mazzola is a part-time instructor at Cape Cod Community College. Jake graduated from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems in 2013. After graduating, Jake co-founded Blue Harbor Technology in 2015. Blue Harbor Technology provides a wide variety of IT solutions and services to small and mid-size businesses across the South Shore of Massachusetts who want to do IT right. Above all, Jake loves spending time with family and friends and, of course, technology!
